What Music Taught Me About Fashion

When I hear a bassline, I don’t just think about the groove —
I think about the fit that would match it.
Growing up in the 1970s, music wasn’t background noise. It was the main event. Gospel gave us reverence. Funk gave us flavor. Soul gave us depth. And with each genre came its own look — from wide collars and church hats to tracksuits and platform shoes.
We didn’t just listen to music. We dressed like it.
From Soundtrack to Style Statement
My journey into fashion officially started in 1983, but my relationship with music goes back further. Both have shaped how I see the world — and how I express myself.
They’ve taught me that:
- Music tells you how to feel.
- Fashion shows you how to move through it.
So when I created Rhythm and Swag, it wasn’t just about launching a product line.
It was about building a visual mixtape — designs that echo the rhythm in all of us.
Wear the Groove
That’s why our tees say things like:
- “Kind of Blue, Kind of Brilliant”
- “It Don’t Mean a Thing...”
- “Jazzed for Classical”
Every piece we create reflects the legacy of the genres we love — jazz, soul, gospel, hip-hop, classical, and beyond. Every product is a vibe you can wear.
What’s Your Soundtrack?
